Hi Chris, first – a great theme
but I’ve found a bug
it has issues with child categories and child pages
for example , if you have a Page called portfolio which is the parent to 5 other pages, only 2 are shown (with the nice slide effect) on the top navigation
If you have a Category for your blog posts (or gallery) again say portfolio with child categories ‘video’ and ‘tv’ then they appear as a drop down to portfolio (found by the home HOUSE button) but with no background, not vertically aligned, also any other top level categories are shunted across on the rollover

Chris says: May 28th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
John, you’ve found my dirty little secret. I definitely should have included styles for drop-downs/child categories, but honestly, I didn’t have a lot of time to work on that before the initial release. I will definitely work to get that in the next release. Thanks for mentioning it here.

Can you offer any advice?

Thank you.

Thanks for the theme, Chris. I wanted ask you how I could replace the 500X325 image with a video. The wp flash player plugin has a short code format of: [flashvideo file=http://youtube.com/watch?v=pShf2VuAu_Q /] – what file do I need to modify in order to add this functionality?

Very nice work Chris.

To echo on Eric’s comment…

Is it posible to replace the larger image with a .SWF flash file?

If so, can you advise on which page to add the flash object to?

Cheers

Hi Chris, great theme! Thanks a ton. I want to adapt this theme to a project I’m working on. I’m new to using Thematic and child themes. If you have some extra time would you be kind enough to give me a few pointers on how to turn this theme into a 3 column layout on the single.php pages and a 2 or 3 column layout on the index.php (home page) page? thanks.

Ok i have been looking into this issue, i have got the flash file now showing on the page, but not in the ‘larger image’ area of this template.

When i view the source code for this page [using the IE option to view source], there is this section of code…

….This is the div where the larger image is, but as you can see, i have tried just entering the path of my .SWF file directly into the field in the ‘edit posts’ that should be the field for the larger image file, a jpeg.

…Because it is expecting a jpeg file, it automatically adds the field value into an ‘img src’ tag. This is why it fails for me.

I need to locate where this file is exactly in the WP file set, so i can download it, change that code above from the ‘img src’ to a ‘object’ syntax, so that it can load the .SWF successfully.

I hope this makes more sense to what im trying to acheive, and that someone can advice me where these posts are stored, in order to d/l them for editing outside of the default Wordpress editor, as that editor only allows you to define the value of the jpeg file, not change it completely so that it is referencing a flash file instead.

help please

Chris, I have downloaded the latest version 1.1.1 and have uploaded both the theme and thematic to the theme directory but when trying to activate the theme it is getting this error:

Stylesheet is missing.
Gallery, a Thematic child theme Template is missing.

I have downloaded and checked every file and counted they uploaded properly via FTP and can’t see any problems with the upload…. Does the latest version 1.1.1 have an error and missing files ?

Also – how did you manage to add the ads at the top of your index page above the posting 7 x 125×125 ads ?

I didn’t even know that photos are automatically resized. That’ll save me a few steps from now on.
This theme really takes Wordpress to new areas.

It should say “the menu isn’t working CORRECTLY”. It is working it’s just the subcategories that aren’t showing up correct.

Hello,

Thanks for this theme. It is beautiful and perfect for what I need. I am having some issues however.

When I open my link, there seems to be an issue with image displaying properly. However, when you click on the category, it displays the thumbnail correctly.

Here are links – Home page with issue: http://askewuniverse.com/Gallery/
Correct display: http: http://askewuniverse.com/Gallery/category/paintings/

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again!

Awesome theme, simply what I have been looking for over the last couple of centuries with no luck.

Just to Echo Carla’s Reuben’s and Roman Keller’s comment, I would like to know whether you can run under the same installation a Blog. This Would make my life (and many others) easier, since I wouldn’t have to install wordpress 2 times (one for the Blog and one for the portfolio.

Can anyone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me how to get the logo area (when clicked) to go to a different URL than the root? I know its something in the header, and then subsequently related to “thematic_header()” and functions.php

I am totally stuck. Since I am using the gallery in a directory within my main site, I would like the logo at the top left to go back to the main site instead of to the grid gallery index.

Thanks!

Hi, I’m wondering if there’s a way to add additional multiple full images (photos full size) to the post. So the thumbnail would act as a photo album link rather than a single image. I’ve tried to add multiple full-image custom fields, but to no avail. I’m newbie and any help would be awesome. I love this theme, thanks in advance.

Steve says: June 16th, 2009 at 7:22 pm
The file size can be changed in single.php, just do a search for “375″. You can change the description in the Admin window in the functions.php file, again look for “375″

Thanks for the theme. It worked like a gem till i upgraded it to wordpress 2.8.
However the real culprit may be the new version of WP-PostRatings. The stars in “Highest Rated” are all gone and there are few small bugs as well.
After checking the changelog for WP-PostRatings i saw that Lester renamed few files. Can you guide is in the right direction as to what changes should we make in order to keep the highest rated think, work in the same way it was designed as….Thanks

Hi…I love this template very much, thank you Chris for your superb design. Is it compatible with wordpress 2.8?

Alb says: June 18th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
Damien, if you are getting that ‘template missing’ message when trying to activate this theme, it might be that you hadn’t downloaded the Thematic Theme Framework that you also need.

This Gallery Theme requires the Thematic Theme Framework in order to work, its on the SmashingPumpkins page under the install instruction.

You can get the Thematic Theme Framework from http://themeshaper.com/thematic/
And you just place that in the same directory as the Gallery Theme, then when you are picking your theme from the Wordpress Admin Control Panel you should be able to activate the Gallery successfully.

..You might have already downloaded this and are getting this error for another reason, but i know without the Thematic you can get a similar error.

Alb says: June 18th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
SmashingPumpkin …. SmashingMagazine …. easy mistake to make

Francesco Aloisio says: June 19th, 2009 at 8:21 am
Hi there, is there a plan to include in a future version, the possibility to run a blog under the same installation with this theme?
So that you can specify on the admin page, whether an article is going to be a Blog post or a Portofolio Item.
Then all the blog posts could be displayed on a separate page that could be displayed at administrator’s choice as Home page, or secondary page.
I can help building the templates, but have no skills to do the PHP part.
Cheers…

It looks like a great theme. Unfortunately I was not able to get it working in Wordpress 2.8, I guess it is not compatible with 2.8.

I got various errors in the single.php file. When I resolved the line 7 issue I got another in line 11.
I was not able to get any picture, both full size and thumbnail to show on the gallery. I did everything via the instructions but it just did not want to work.

I give up and will look for another similar template. I may come back when it is confirmed to be 2.8 compatible.
